Philanthropy

What is a philanthropy?

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a philanthropy is "an organization distributing or supported by funds set aside for humanitarian purposes." The Gamma Delta chapter recognizes three philanthropies for which we focus our efforts.  Kappa Psi's national philanthropy is the American Red Cross, the Great Lakes Province philanthropy this year is to improve upon our existing philanthropy events, and Gamma Delta's philanthropy is Nutrition.

"Our new international philanthropy project is Reach out and Read In efforts to create a long-term, impactful and meaningful path forward for the Fraternity through fundraising and direct service activities. This organization is an evidence-based national non-profit organization of medical providers who promote early literacy. It is represented in every US state, DC, US Virgin Islands, and Armed Forces bases in the Pacific and Europe. In addition, opportunities will arise to start new programs in any city or country that our Chapters exist. The program establishes pediatric primary care clinics, hospitals, and health centers in over 5,800 current programs for 0-5yr olds and 4 million children and families, about $100 for the full 5 year program. Our annual international goal is of $50,000 a year in donations and hours to make us a 'Literacy Partner.'” -Robert Mancini, our Grand Regent

Philanthropy Improvement

Our province has a different philanthropy challenge each province decided upon our Vice Satrap. All of the Kappa Psi chapters in our province participate in this philanthropy and compete to win the "Vice Satraps Philanthropy Challenge". The winner of the challenge is announced at the Fall and Spring Province Assembly. This past Fall Province (2017) the challenge was to improve and expand our Chapter's exisiting philanthropies.

Nutrition

As a chapter there are several activities throughout the year that we participate in to raise awareness about Nutrition. As a brotherhood, we volunteer at Restore and serve meals to members of the community. On the second Sunday of months while on campus, we donate our time to serve breakfast to the under-served in Lima at the Trinity United Methodist Church. Every spring we host a Nutrition Awareness week. This includes hosting a canned food drive to donate to the Ada Food Pantry, giving out nutritious treats and offering nutrition facts to students, participating in Zumba as a chapter, and hosting Nutrition Bingo. We sometimes change our events to find other ways to reach out to the community and campus. Gamma Delta is very passionate about our philanthropy and each year we hold more events to support it. â€‹
